The US is Waging a Silent War on Cannabis Moms

It’s a twisted irony, my dear readers. In a country where wine mom culture reigns supreme and children are prescribed medication for ADHD faster than you can say “Ritalin,” a mother who turns to cannabis for relaxation or to alleviate chronic pain risks losing everything. Yes, you heard that right. The same system that claims to have the best interests of our little ones at heart is being used to traumatize them, all in the name of a plant that’s been proven to be less harmful than alcohol.

It’s a phenomenon that has been dubbed “cannabis mom shaming” and it’s a growing concern in our society. While wine moms are celebrated and even encouraged, mothers who choose to use cannabis are often met with judgment and condemnation. It’s a double standard that is not only unfair, but also harmful to families.

But let’s take a step back and examine the facts. According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, alcohol is the most harmful drug to both individuals and society as a whole. Yet, it’s perfectly acceptable for a mom to unwind with a glass of wine after a long day of juggling work and family responsibilities. But if that same mom chooses to use cannabis, she risks being labeled as a “bad mother” and potentially losing custody of her children.

And let’s not forget about the children themselves. While alcohol has been linked to a myriad of negative effects on children, including increased risk of abuse and neglect, cannabis has been found to have minimal impact on children when used responsibly by adults. Yet, the child welfare system continues to prioritize cannabis use over other, more harmful substances.

It’s a sad reality that in our society, a plant that has been used for medicinal and recreational purposes for centuries is still stigmatized and demonized. And it’s even sadder that mothers who turn to this plant for relief and relaxation are being punished for it.

But there is hope. As more and more states legalize cannabis for both medical and recreational use, attitudes are slowly shifting. And it’s up to us, as a society, to continue to educate ourselves and break down the stigma surrounding cannabis use.

So let’s raise
