“Texas Poll Reveals Surprising Support for Legalizing Cannabis: A Hipster’s Dream Come True!”
According to the latest Texas Lyceum Poll, it seems that the Lone Star State is finally catching up with the times. In a shocking turn of events, a solid majority of six out of 10 adults are now in favor of legalizing cannabis. That’s right, folks, the green wave is gaining bipartisan support, even in states that are known for their strict red or blue voting tendencies.
But wait, it gets even better. The 18th annual Texas Lyceum Poll found that a whopping 60% of adult Texans are in favor of legalizing adult-use cannabis. That’s a 14% increase from the last time the survey asked about marijuana back in 2015. Looks like the tide is turning, and the people are ready for change.
But what about other controversial topics? Well, it seems that Texans are also warming up to the idea of expanding legal casino gambling. In fact, 57% of those polled said they would support it, while only 28% were opposed. Looks like the state is ready to take some risks and have a little fun.
However, not everyone is on board with the cannabis movement. The Dallas Morning News reports that older adults, Republicans, and self-identified conservatives are still divided on the issue. Among those over 65 and Republicans, only 49% support legalization, and among conservatives, it’s even lower at 46%. But hey, progress takes time, right?
Interestingly enough, the poll also revealed that some people who oppose legalization actually just want to decriminalize it instead. 42% of those against legalization said they would support decriminalizing possession of small amounts, with just a citation and fine. Looks like they’re starting to see the light.
But let’s not forget about the other important topics covered in the poll, such as politics, religion, housing, and even space exploration. And speaking of gambling, it seems that Texans are also warming up to that idea. In fact, the Texas Lyceum Poll will be holding a conference on South Padre Island this November, titled “Win, Lose or Draw: The Future of Marijuana and Gambling in the Lone Star State.” Sounds like a party we don’t want to miss.
Of course, when it comes to cannabis, Texas’s unique politics can’t be ignored. The state has been a reliable red state for decades, with Republicans winning every general election since 1976. But in 2020, things started to shift, with Donald Trump winning by the narrowest margin since 1996. Looks like the demographics are changing, and the winds of change are blowing.
But let’s not forget about the patients who are already benefiting from low-level THC cannabis under the state’s compassionate use program. Established in 2015, this program allows certain physicians to prescribe low-THC products to patients with seizure disorders, multiple sclerosis, and other conditions. And just this year, the program was expanded to include patients with PTSD and cancer. Progress, people!
Unfortunately, not everyone is on board with decriminalization. Last February, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed lawsuits against five cities that had passed decriminalization measures. Looks like some state leaders are still stuck in the past. But with the overwhelming support for legalization and decriminalization, it’s only a matter of time before Texas joins the ranks of other progressive states. Keep on fighting the good fight, Texas!
