Cannabis for Pain Relief: A Global Trend

It’s no secret that cannabis has been used for centuries to alleviate pain. But now, it’s becoming a global trend as more and more individuals turn to this natural remedy for relief from chronic pain and other conditions. And while the medical community is still studying the effects of cannabis, many are taking matters into their own hands with promising results. In fact, a recent survey published in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology sheds light on the growing trend of using cannabis for pain relief, specifically in relation to endometriosis.

The Endometriosis Epidemic

Endometriosis is a condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus, causing severe pelvic pain and inflammation. This tissue behaves in the same way as the lining inside the uterus, thickening, breaking down, and bleeding with each menstrual cycle. Unfortunately, there is no known cause or cure for endometriosis, but there are various treatments available to help manage the symptoms.

Cannabis: A Modern-Day Treatment

While some opt for surgery or hormonal treatments, many are turning to cannabis for relief from endometriosis symptoms. In fact, a survey conducted by Australian researchers found that 192 individuals with a history of cannabis use and endometriosis reported using cannabis to manage their symptoms. This is due in part to the high cost and limited accessibility of traditional treatments, as well as the lack of information surrounding the use of cannabis for endometriosis.

The Survey Says…

The survey, which gathered data from Australian and New Zealand residents, found that THC-dominant cannabis-based medicinal products (CMBPs) are the most commonly prescribed for endometriosis. Many respondents also reported using multiple products for maximum relief. However, there is still a lack of research on the ideal products, modes of administration, and efficacy of cannabis for endometriosis.

So while the medical community continues to study the effects of cannabis, it’s clear that this natural remedy is already making a significant impact on the lives of those suffering from endometriosis. And as more individuals turn to cannabis for pain relief, it’s likely that further research and policy changes will follow suit.
