In a world where digital currencies, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence dominate the conversation, digital art has become increasingly popular. One artist, Julian Majin from Colombia, uses this medium to create imaginative worlds where cannabis and pop culture collide. With references to icons like The Beatles and the Mona Lisa, Majin’s work is thought-provoking and visually stimulating.
Majin’s interest in digital art began during his studies in graphic design at the University of Cauca. He quickly became skilled in using various digital editing tools and landed a job at a creative agency after graduation. In his free time, Majin would immerse himself in the work of other digital artists on Instagram, and one day he decided to try creating his own pieces inspired by them. This hobby eventually turned into a successful career, allowing him to express his creativity in ways he couldn’t in his previous job.
As a long-time cannabis user, Majin noticed that many artists were incorporating the plant into their work. He decided to do the same and found immediate success. His first cannabis-related piece was shared by national magazines in the United States, leading to a steady stream of work. Majin realized that he had found his niche as an artist.
Despite Colombia’s reputation for its association with cocaine, Majin is grateful to live in a country that embraces cannabis. While adult-use cannabis is not yet legal in Colombia, CBD products are marketed as health and wellness products. Majin believes that this helps to break the stigma surrounding his country and show that there are alternative ways to utilize the plant.
Majin is hopeful that with the election of Gustavo Petro, a former rebel and Colombia’s first leftist president, the cannabis industry in his country will reach its full potential. He recently collaborated with a local CBD brand, Greenlab, to create a series of 5,555 NFTs featuring unique astronauts in futuristic settings. Each piece incorporates cannabis in a different way, with the narrative being that the astronauts travel to other planets to cultivate the plant and spread its benefits.
By combining his love for digital art and cannabis, Julian Majin has found success and is breaking stereotypes about his country. His work serves as a reminder that there are endless possibilities when it comes to creativity and the use of cannabis.
